Pinus uncinata Ram.: dasometric characterization, site index curves and taper equation
Abstract
This study presents information about growth and yield of Pinus uncinata in Spain. Firstly, using data from the Second National Forest Inventory a silvicultural and dasometric characterization of stands is made. Pinus uncinata stands are classified between mixed and pure stands and by density ranges through the Reineke’s stand density index. Secondly, a site index model is developed using 84 stem analysis from dominant trees of Pinus uncinata stands in Pyrenees. The selected function is the difference equation of Mc-Dill y Amateis (1992), which is polymorphic, reciprocal and base-age invariant. Four site quality curves are defined with site index of 8, 12, 16 and 20 m of dominant height at the age of 100 years. Finally, a stem taper function is fitted using 191 sample trees from 13 permanent plots. Among 10 tested functions the model of Kozak (1988) is selected. This adjusted model is used to build an individual volume table which gives the total and saw timber per tree.Downloads
