Dynamic of leaf decomposition in four forest ecosystems of the Sierra de Gata mountains (Province of Salamanca, Spain): Decomposition indices
Abstract
Data of dry matter, organic carbon and total nitrogen losses in decomposing oak leaves (Quercus pyrenaicaWilld.) obtained using the litter-bag procedure, showed that the dynamic of leaf decomposition has not significative relation with the different rainfall. Nevertheless, the C and N contents of the soils in the Sierra de Gata Mountains are in close relation with the annual rainfall of the site. Decomposition index obtained from the litter bag experimental procedure is lower than the actual rate of decomposicion.
