Mejora de la estimación del incremento anual del volumen de las especies arbóreas en España
Resumen
Objetivo del estudio: El objetivo principal de este estudio es mejorar la estimación del crecimiento corriente anual en volumen para las especies arbóreas en España.
Área de estudio: Se estudiaron, a escala nacional, el incremento de volumen de las especies arbóreas registradas en el Inventario Foresta Nacional (IFN) utilizando los dos últimos ciclos del IFN.
Material y métodos: Se desarrollaron modelos de crecimiento para el diámetro y la altura de los árboles y se utilizaron estas estimaciones para calcular el crecimiento corriente anual en volumen, considerando los datos de los dos últimos ciclos disponibles del IFN. Las estimaciones tanto del diámetro, como de la altura y del volumen se validaron utilizando los ciclos Segundo y Tercero del IFN, no empleados para la modelización.
Resultados principales: Los modelos de crecimiento en diámetro y altura desarrollados mostraron una estructura satisfactoria. Hay varios factores que influyeron en el crecimiento en diámetro y altura y, en consecuencia, en el crecimiento en volumen. En general, la competencia, expresada como área basimétrica afectó negativamente el crecimiento del árbol. Además, aunque el área basimétrica de los árboles mayores también tuvo un efecto negativo, este se vio modulado por la calidad de estación, donde mejores condiciones favorecieron positivamente el crecimiento. Además, la vitalidad del árbol demostró ser un factor importante modulando su crecimiento.
Aspectos destacados de la investigación: La metodología propuesta mejora las estimaciones de incremento de volumen en comparación con los métodos anteriores basados en las ecuaciones de incremento anual de volumen. Considerar las características del árbol, de la masa y del lugar es fundamental para estimar con precisión el crecimiento en volumen.
