Abstract

In this paper a model of timber yield simulator is shown. It enables the transformation of yield tables of fixed treatment schedule for a few site index classes into others of variable schedule for any class. It also gives information about stand diameter distribution, log sizes of trees felled in each thinning and rotation profitability. A simulator for monospecific plantations of Pinus radiata D. Don in the Basque Country is developed with this model. It is based in a whole stand model whose main variables are dominant height, basal area and diameter distribution. Once the set of equations is fitted, a computer program simulating stand growth and thinnings is implemented. By comparing the tables generated with those used in the construction of the simulator, an underestimation of less than 10 p. 100 in total yield is observed, which is acceptable.
