Selections of species, origins and provenance of Eucalyptus, resistant to low temperatures in nursery plants for the north of the Salado depression, Buenos Aires province, Argentine
Abstract
Considering the resistance to low temperatures, an early selection in tree nursery plant of 55 origins and provenance of Eucalyptus was made. The damage produced by frost happened in Lobos (35º 10' LS; 59º 10' Long.W; 29 m s.n.m.), Buenos Aires Province on seeding of Eucalyptus camaldulensis; E. tereticornis; E. viminalis; E. ovata; E. dunnii; E. delegatensis; E. nitens; E. fastigata; E. elata; E. smithii y E. oreades. For the selection of the treatment, climatic analogies were used between the origins and the bioeassy's place. A randomized complete design was made with 10 repetitions in 24 plants each one. A damage scale of 0 (undamaged) was settled, to 5 (air part dead); whole height were tested by Tuckey so as to compare media. The height of plants and the damage with the Geographic parameters of each origin were correlated. A high positive correlation with latitude, altitude and resistance to frost appeared. Eucalyptus camaldulensis of higher latitudes specially Lake Albatuya; E. tereticornis of similar latitudes around 29ºLS; E. viminalis, all the origins proved; E. ovata; E. delegatensis; E. fastigata and E. dunnii were outstanding because of their behavior.
