Silvopastoral systems: photosyntethically active radiation incidence on forage plan phenology and seasonal production
Abstract
The evaluation of aerial biomass, phenology and seed production of the pastoral component of Populus deltoides (625 trees/ha), Populus deltoides (1100 trees/ha) and Salix sp. (1100 trees/ha), Populus deltoides (1100 trees/ha) and Salix sp. (1100 trees/ha) Silvopastoral Systems (SPS) and its asociation with the Photosyntethically Active Radiation (PAR) of the herbaceous layer was the objetive of the present paper. The PAR of the Populus deltoides (625 trees/ha) SSP was approximately between 6 p. 100 and 50 p. 100 of the control praire values, and the biomass production was between 9 p. 100 and 53 p. 100. There was a 15 days delay of the foraging especies cicle in the SSP. The seed productin was 67 p. 100 less in the Populus deltoides (1100 trees/ha) that in the control praire and 73 p. 100 less in the Populus deltoides (625 trees/ha). The PAR registered in the SSP influenced the foraging production (dry biomass and seeds) and produced pastoral phenologic delay. The quantity and quality of the sun radiation could act as the principal limiting factor of the ground pasture. The radicular system development was indirectly affected too; its absortion capacity and persistence as pastoral system component were modified. It is necessary the study of SSP in hedgerow configuration with N-S orientation
